What version of Windows are you running ?
How long has it been installed ? Is there enough space on C: ? Does this happen only if you install games or any kind of program ? RJ

ran scandisk several times. First time it said that there was something wrong with root directory. Then ran program that came with computer called go-back. Similar to system restore. After running this problem appears to be gone except when I run games from filefront.com. ran virus protection (detected a virus that was deleted). So far so good. thanks anyway.

Have you run scandisk in the THOROUGH mode to check for bad sectors on the hard drive?
