First of all:

1) Select your hardware recorder by going to Recorder>Select Recorder. In the device details listed in the Choose Recorder dialog, check if your writer supports Overburn.

2) Start Nero CD-DVD Speed (Start>Nero>Nero Toolkit) and with a CD-RW in the drive, run the Overburn Test (Extra>Run Overburn Test), and see how much your recorder can do (ie., what the maximum length of CD is that you can get a stable burn on).

3) Finally open Nero and go to File>Preferences>Expert Features and tick "Enable Overburn disc-at-once burning" and set the maximum CD length to the value you got with Nero CD-DVD Speed.

To prevent Nero from creating and saving a disc image to hard disk when you copy a CD, enable "Delete image file after disc copy" on the Image page of the Compilation Window. Also try not to use "On-the-fly" copying.
