Music into scores ?
Is there software that is able to convert recorded music into musical scores ?
A blind friend of mine compose and perform his own music. Some people have express interest to buy his scores but he can't sell any coz its all in his head. If there is such a software, I can help him to record and output his music into a score. Any suggestions ?

He can get a MIDI keyboard that can attach to a computer then play the music into a MIDI editor program. Some of them can print scores; I don't have any that can but one of my friends does and I'll see if I can find out which it is. I use the freeware version of Anvil Studio, and I'm not exactly sure what it's capabilities are.
Before you record, there is usually an option to check that "rounds off" notesto a certain length; humans and sticky keyboards might make tiny mistakes, like playing a 1/4 notes for 1/4 plus 1/64 amount of time, and it's messy if the computer is that precise about note length. So you can have the computer round off to the nearest 1/16 or 1/32 or whatever. Of course, some songs require very fine note distinctions, then you just need make sure that your friend is a very skilled pianist and has a quality keyboard. |

I think he has a rather old Yamaha keyboard PS288 or something like that. I *think* it can record midi sounds. He says this board is the best - he has look at newer boards and he don't like the sounds or *feel* of the new boards.
I have no idea about music at all. If you have more info about what would be the simpliest way to convert music into scores, it would be wonderful. |

There is a way to do it, i dont know exactly how. But i do know kids at school in band have taken midi files and transfered them in to sheet music so they can play them. Try looking at finale or another music notation software.

There are plenty of score writing programs. Finale and Sibelius are two of the best. The problem a blind person would have is navigating the software. But both can be used with MIDI capable keyboards or synthesizers or notes can be entered 1 at a time.
Doing a Google search for music notation for blind people, I came up with these that seemed to offer some good information: http://www.cultivate-int.org/issue8/weasel/ http://www.music-notation.info/en/compmus/braille.html http://www.opustec.com/products/newintl/ http://ui4all.ics.forth.gr/UI4ALL-20...s/Langolff.pdf I wish your friend luck. I've worked with a few people in the studio who are blind, but musically, they 'see' far more than most of us. Dave.
