a friend of mine deleted a folder from my drive over the network. i am looking for a piece of software that will search the computer for deleted files and allow me to restore them. i know this is probably a stretch, but i am hoping someone knows a good piece of software

are there any free ones that will do a good job? i know the lite version allows for 25 files to be recovered, but i need to recover upwards of 100. the school doesn't have any money to spend on this, that is why i am wondering

i would think you should be searching on the pc they were deleted on. however, i would search from the pc they were deleted from, if you can, so you don't accidentaly overwrite one of the files you need.

yea, i have shut both computers down until tomorrow. i feel so bad for the kid who got his folder deleted. two of the boys in the class have similar names, and one wasn't paying attention too well when he deleted it. its a media course and the students store all of their projects in a shared folder. no one will be touching the computers other than me

This is free now:
http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/UK/welcome.htm i have heard that it is quite good, although I have never used it myself. have you considered using folders with ntfs permissions on them so only your admin staff and the student himself can get in? Might stop it happening in the future. Presuming all the pupils have individual log-ins. |

all the students do not have individual logins, because some of the people share projects and so they share folders. the student decided that it was not worth wasting the time to recover, and i don't think i would have gotten it anyway. too much was done by the students before i came in, so it was gone. i was able to recover other files, but not those. oh well

what would the best software to 'securely delete' files or clean hard drives? so that this sort of recovery is not possible?
also is Ontrack Easy Recovery considered the best at recovering deleted files? |

Eraser is good software for secure deletion.
http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/ I consider Ontrack to be the leader in data recovery. |
