How many have turned off their system speaker?

I didn't like that system speaker beeping at me during bootup and other routine procedures so I disconnected it and I am just curious if others have done the same.

Boot...up...?

Who turns off a computer? I don't bother to since I figure I only bootup after a restart, which is only after a week or so or a program install that wants a restart.

I keep my computer on all the time but my system speaker works. If my real speakers are on then it comes out of them(and VERY loud)

wow i've been noticing lately a lot of people are keeping their PCs on all the time. mines in my bedroom so I don't do that (too loud even with the Sonata lol). I don't really have a need for it either.

If you don't want the beeps during bootup, set your PC to quiet boot in your BIOS

I don't got muhc of a need either, but I figure I got F@H going, and I am to lazy at this point and time to get the console and graphical ones to work well right from booting(I know it's not that hard, but it's even less hard to set it up once and just let it go for days ) Not sure how the beeps would be all that troubling though

My PC doesn't beep anyway at bootup, so it will only boot when something is wrong.
And for that, I keep it on

I keep mine plugged in. What if your PC doesn't boot, and you are getting a beep code? You wouldn't know that without it plugged in.

I hate having it on and if I do need to check for a problem then its not that hard to connect it.

Mine beeps once at startup and the Asus POST reporter tells me if anything is wrong. The beep certainly doesn't bother me. I don't see how it could bother anyone.

Mine runs 24 hrs. My gaming machine has the speaker still connected but the new build in a Antec P160 case did not come with a speaker. After I finished putting it together I double checked everything and just crossed my fingers and hoped it would POST the first time. Fortunatly it did and all was fine.

The system speaker on my G5 Mac is an actual speaker so it stays on all the time. I had no idea this was the case until I brought the thing home . It's not a great speaker, so I have a nice 3 piece set hooked up too, but it does the job in a pinch. Not too many PC's come with built in speakers I guess.

The only built in speaker you'll find in a PC is the little .25 watt monster. Mine is built into the motherboard and I'm guessing most newer ones are that way. I blew up an old PC speaker out of my old, old computer by hooking it up to a 100watt stereo and turning it up all the way. That thing was hot. Ouch! It was only 400 times the maximum power for that speaker.

hahahaha
I leave my computer on at daytime, as I'm not always in my room, but turn it off at night so I can sleep, as I live in accommodation

One with, two without and shut them all down every nite or when I'm gone from the house. The one 'with' has an Asus A7N8X - E Deluxe mobo that has the voice notification. Now THAT is annoying - and is now disabled in bios!
