''The program is not responding'' - message
Hello,
recently i am facing quite often a problem when trying to Turn Off or Restart my PC. I get the message : ''The program is not responding. To return to Windows and check the status of the program, click cancel. If you choose to end the program immediately, you will lose any unsaved data. To end the program now, click End Now.'' End Now Cancel On the top of the window of the message is written : End Program - wupdater.exe What is the meaning of this message, what could the problem be and how can i fix this or handle similar messages when they appear. Thanks.

Although I cannot guarentee it would work, I would loook into this - a registry edition. Go to open regedit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run And remove the wupdater reference. Just something I found somewhere - though I might recommend the Adaware/Spybot/Spy Sweeper method - much safer. Hope that helps, kram

Wupdater.exe is a spyware program that may have installed with n-CASE, iGetNet, and KeenValue.exe. This programs were created by eUniverse.
In general, these programs generate popup ads and may hijack web searches. Wupdater.exe seems to be a background update task. We'd recomment removing this file. You'll probably find it in C:\Program Files\Common files\updater\wupdater.exe. |

I searched for this file, wupdater.exe, with Windows Explorer and i found it, indeed, in C:\Program Files\Common files\updater. When i right clicked on the wupdater.exe and pressed Delete i got the message : ''Are you sure you want to send 'wupdater' to the Recycle Bin?'' and then i got the message : Error Deleting file or folder. Cannot delete wupdater : Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use. Q1. How am i going to delete this file? By the way, this file is not installed, right? I just have to right click & Delete it, am i correct? The folder called Updater has other files in it as well, one of which is the updater application. Q2. Where did this folder come from and what is its purpose? Can i just right click and delete the folder with all its contents? Please nswer the questions above and give me insructions on how to proceed because i have this annoying situation whenever i try to Turn Off or Restart my PC. Thanks. Dont delete that folder! There are things other programs need in there.
just run adaware and spybot, they should remove it. |

Yeah, me too....
OK I have the same problem....and I am less versed in the mysterious ways of the computer operating system......The only difference I have is that my "The program is not responding" message leads me through the same steps to "End Program -- BJCFD"....is this also spyware? Should I delete BJCFD or is it an acronym for something my computer actually needs to run essential applications? ......It has become a serious pain, and I hope it's not responsible for the increasingly slow speed of my system....I also have XP....and a Celeron processor, which I've heard does not necessarily give me worse processing speed than the Pentium IV, at least for my purposes....I haven't downloaded incredible amounts of programs onto my laptop, so I'm just trying to maximize the performance of my machine....
Please help if you can...Thanks. |
