I just installed the comcast high speed software because I had to in order to register. But it took over my IE browser and stuff... How can I safely remove it and all its remnants?

Can't give you any specific answers as I'm not familiar with Comcast's setup. I would suggest trying Comcast's forum first You may have better chance there at finding a solution.
