Boom outlook express e mail

I am sick of using AOL for my e-mail so I’m trying to switch to optimum online e-mail. I set up a sub e mail account with optimum online. I know it works because I can access the account from their Webster. I’m trying to set it up with Microsoft outlook but I’m not having much luck. I have tried to set it up but I cannot connect to the mail servers. Can anyone direct me to directions that I can use to get this working? I am currently running win 98se and Microsoft outlook 97.

Thanks
-Michael

Is optimum online a standard Pop3 type mail service? Do you have the accouint info needed to set it up?

Outlook 97 was terrible - you are better off using Outlook Express 5 or 6.

Just click on this link:

http://www.optonline.net/AutoEmail

Manual configuration is here:

Open Outlook Express
Click on "TOOLS"
Click on "ACCOUNTS"
Click on "MAIL" tab
Click on ADD button
Select "MAIL"
* Type in your name (for example: John Smith)
Click "NEXT"
Type in your e-mail address (for example: jsmith@optonline.net)
Click "NEXT"
Make sure your mail server is set to POP3 server type
Type in your incoming POP3 server name: mail.optonline.net
Type in your outgoing SMTP server name: mail.optonline.net
Click "NEXT"
Make sure your POP account name is entered (for example: jsmith)
Type in your password (same as you log in password)
Click "NEXT"
Choose a "Friendly name" (anything you want, for example John Smith, Johnny Smith or Smitty)
Click "NEXT"
Put black dot next to "Connect using my Local Area Network (LAN)"
Click "NEXT"
Click "FINISH" Repeat the above procedure for all sub-accounts.

I have found those instructions, when I go to the tools tab there is no sub-tab labled called “accounts”. I think this was a feature added in the newer versions of outlook. Where can I get a copt of .5 or .6?

Outlook EXPRESS comes with Win98SE, it's already on your system. If you can't find the icon, open the Run box and type MSIMN . Don't even mess with Outlook 97 - if you read the Optonline support carefully, they don't even support it - only Outlook 2000 and newer.
