Aim 5.5

Hi all,

I tried to logon with my older version of AIM today and it refused to let me forcing me to upgrade. My question is, do I have to upgrade to version 5.5 (the latest-- which I don't really want) or are there other versions that still work. It's possible that I had version 4.8x on my system yet. Thanks in advance.

Hi Floppy,

My version is 5.2 . I don't know if 5.5 just adds more advertising and bloat on your system or not.
I use AIM so rarely that I'm getting ready to uninstall it.

Typical of AOL software, ain't it? I also use this program called DeadAIM, that removes the advertisement for me...and prevents those annoying AOL stuff from popping up.

Sure thing - here is the link: http://www.jdennis.net/DeadAIM/downloads.php . It used to be free, but they started charging money about a few months ago - I still have the old version which is completely freeware. I guess all I do is refuse to get updates .

Thanks for the link kram, but a simple google search gave me a link to an older, free version. The wonders of google .
