Laptop Wireless Problems

Hi all,

I have an strange laptop problem. I have a Fujitsu P 2120 which is almost 3 years old. I have had absolutely 0 problems with it until last week. Original setup was with Win2K and laptop has a built in Intersil 'b' wireless card. About 8 months ago I did a clean upgrade to WinXP after which I reinstalled all the hardware drivers (downloaded from Fujitsu's website) without any problems. Things were running fine for the most part, though a little more slowly than when I was running Win2K...probably a response to having 256mb of memory. About two months ago I upgraded my cell phone plan to data, purchased a USB cable that connected to my cell and began using it sporatically to connect to the internet from just about anywhere. Last Friday, after one such session, upon returning to work, I tried to connect to the wireless network and was unable to. I rebooted and was still unable to connect. When I checked in device manager, the wireless card was not there. Tried reinstalling the drivers...nothing. I decided that this would be my opportunity to reinstall Win2K and get my machine running faster, again. Fujitsu doesn't provide reinstall disks; instead they use Drive Image and have a small partition created on the HDD with the original manufacturers setup. Re-imaged the laptop. When the system rebooted, I got 8 'Found New Hardware' Network controllers. Each time I clicked to try to find drivers, I got the message that the drivers couldn't be found. Along with this, my Intersil wireless card had an exclamation point next to it in device drivers (code 10) and no matter how many times I tried to reinstall them, I could not get it to work. I re-imaged the system twice more with the exact same results. Finally, I called Fujitsu support. They talked me through the same proceedures that I had already done. When nothing changed, they figured that the image may be corrupt, so they sent me reinstall disks. Got them yesterday. Did the reinstall with them...same problem; 8 network controllers with question marks next to them, unable to load drivers, wireless card with exclamation mark, unable to load drivers. I have also done a clean reinstall of WinXP Pro...same issue. Clean install of another copy of Win2K...same. I'm going to call Fujitsu again, but...anyone have any ideas?

Sorry about the length of this post, but I wanted to give as much information as possible.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a hardware issue to me. The software isn't so flaky as the Fujitsu makes it out to be. Code 10 means that the device could not start.http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d...k_dec_lgsc.asp
