In many cases, the answer is no, it's not worth it. Depends on varibables, like how old the unit is. The screens I've priced (very few) have been in the $700 - 800 range without labor.

depends on the laptop, whats the model # and Serial #, you can usually find replacements (pulls) from other laptops on Ebay. I broke the screen on my HP, so I paid about $200 or so for the new screen, and did the labor my self, the machine was only a year and a few months old, so going out and buying a new ~$1000 laptop seemed crazy.

ok thanks guys, I don't have the model number or serial number yet, my friend is bringing it to me this weekend to repair. I think I am gonna look into replacing the monitor myself. I've never actually done any repairs on a laptop before, but I can't imagine it would be that difficult to swap out a monitor.

LCD screens on a laptop are USUALLY pretty easy.... I've done them in 15 min or less... it's just the cost of the screen itself that is insane. Although I did an older Acer a few years ago... you had to dismantle the whole dang machine to get the halves of the display apart to get the panel out... ended up charging 2 hours labour on that one.

HAL9000 is right. It's not insanely difficult to replace the screen itself. It's just the price you have to swallow. We replace them at work all the time and I've seen them range from $150.00 to $500.00.
