That question is extremely vague, please specify what your exact needs are.

sorry about the vagness. I was at work and in a hurry. I have dsl connection at the house through sbc. I live in weatherford,tx and work in north fort worth. (45 miles apart). I would like to have a wirless set up for home but i would really like to just be able to connect through a laptop for security cameras every now and then that are at my house.. I just cant connect a laptop to our lines at work. (sbc) I just need the ability to check them every now and then. I cant connect to cameras on web through work becasue of securty settings that cant change. Dont have laptop yet but willing to get though.,,could a phone do that type of stuff? Just not up on the some of the current technology. Sorry so long..

Typically no home based wifi network is going to give you reliable connections at that range 45 miles (altho 802.11a has terrific ranges) it still would be very dependent on too many factors.
Seems to me that your only limiting factor is that you cannot use your work network to access your personal stuff on a VPN? So basically all you need is a personal internet connection?
There might be wireless ISPs in your neighborhood that you could use, or failing which, you could connect through a mobile network using a GPRS connection (either through a PC Card or using a cell fone as a GPRS modem to connect to your laptop). So to answer your query ...
Yes a phone can give you a connection to the internet. Two basic ways .. the first is to use the fone as your web appliance, a lot of fones/PDAs can use full fledged browsers through your cellular network. The second is if you have a GSM cell fone to use your laptop to connect. you can either use your GSM card in a PCMCIA card, or to use your phone (IR or Bluetooth or USB capable fone) as a "modem".

Check out the Verizon Wireless data plans - you can use a PC card in a laptop and connect through their cell towers.
