iBooks... worth it?

Im just looking around for things i could get for christmas. My computer (in sig) is getting quite old+slow (4y+), and I need a replacement. So i started looking at laptops before considering a new build. Then i started to look at iBooks from apple. Whats everyones opinion of them? I'm just wondering whether their worth the price in comparision to other pc based laptops including features also. basically i need a good battery life, reasonable graphics, good processer + ammount of ram. i was attracted by the 6h battery life aswell as it seems alot of laptops only last a couple of hours.

thanks (person who doesnt know much about apple hardware/software )

Ibooks are worth it if you want an Apple computer. Don't expect to run Windows software on it without an emulator, which degrades performance.

I'd personally wait for the Intel iBooks if I were going to get one.

The ibooks are really worth it, if you really want an ibook.

In my opinion, the latest ibooks are really worth it. It's just expensive Apple junk. The gpu isnt very up to date and only 32mb. Old RAM, too. The Powerbooks are pretty nice, but it's got a bigger price tag.

Most people who buy iBooks and the like aren't particularly interested in their 3D performance. If you're not going to be gaming, a 32 MB video card should be plenty, and the old RAM shouldn't really be a problem either if there's enough of it (at least 512 MB).

I agree, but he wanted to see if it was worth the price. I don't think it is. For $1000 to $1300 retail, I'd consider something more up to date.

I don't really think $1000 is too much to spend for that hardware -- although as I said I would still wait for the Intel iBooks. If you want something that runs MacOS and is portable, that's the best deal you're going to get. However, if you don't need MacOS, I'd get a Dell or IBM.
