Please help me decide between the Dell and the Compaq.

Please help me decide between the Dell and the Compaq. I do not know how to compare the different processors. On the surface the Compaq looks better to me.
I have a fast desktop AMD64 for when I am in the office, but I need a laptop for when I travel a few days a month. I will have about the same money in either.
Which would be faster?
Which cust support is better?
Life of product?

I would definitely go with the Dell, although if you are looking for long battery life, I'd recommend getting the Pentium-M instead of the Celeron-M. Compaqs are unreliable and have poor customer support, and the specs look quite similar. Keep in mind that there are coupon codes that can bring the price of the Dell down.

I've been an IT Admin for many years, since Dell first came on to the scene. Dell used to bend over frontwards and backwards for anyone, their service and quality had much declined and declined, never went back up and now it's hit rock bottom. Of course, I've had some success with tech support who actually understood what I was saying, but there was more times that they didnt. HP/Compaq wasnt that great about 3 years ago, but with the new revamping of their image, they're gotten a whole lot better. Nowadays, if one needed an RMA, you can get a support rep on the phone right away or even get it on a live chat online. Very quick and very good. Everyone spoke excellent english very well and understood me without having to put me on hold to lookup what I was saying. I had a problem with a printer and they sent me free paper, ink for the troubles and RMA'd the printer with an emailed shipping label.

As for hardware, are you planning to carry this around much? Then I would go with the Compaq. The Dell 6000 is a great machine, but not for carrying around. The build quality could be better, it's got a bigger screen (not bad too). The Compaq has a bigger HD and I think that's a requirement for a laptop that you can travel around with. It's also much lighter than the dell and slimmer. It's a whole lot cheaper (without needing coupons), and it processor is faster than the Celeron chosen. The Dell you can expand it much more in the future (that is if you're planning to), and I'd take up Thefultonhow's advice in getting a Centrino chipset, it's only a small upgrade, but it'll save more battery and give you a bigger boost in performance. But if you're not going to fiddle with it, I'd get the Compaq.
