sorry guys, i get confused between all these processors, and as you can probably tell i'm not too computer literate. i'm pretty sure the pent m is faster but how much difference is is from pentium 4. do you think it will be a while before the 32bit stuff will not run on a 64 bit. thanks for any info

I don't know if this will help, but Pentium M is a mobile processor used in Intel's Centrino lineup. It consumes a lot less power than a Pentium 4 and is more efficient as well. The future for Intel will not be with their P4 architecture but their Pentium M architecture. But for now, Pentium 4's are still the best option for Intel desktop systems but Pentium M's are superb in terms of mobile technology and optimization. Sorry that I can't elaborate further, this is the best I can do. I hope it's a start.
As for 32bit bs 64 bit compatibility... in general, 64 processors and operating systems should be able to process 32 bit programs for a while into the forseeable future. I believe that background compatibility still existed for a while for when 16bit windows was replaced with 32bit windows. I can't be too sure as I was in high school and somewhat computer illiterate back then.

No problem! I'm a bit surprised that nobody added any comments to this thread yet. There are a lot of specific differenced between the chips that I am unware of. If you want some really detailed informaiton, Intel may have some technical information on their website.
