Sony VAIO FS series

I've been searching around for notebook pcs for the past few days and decided to look into Sony's line of products. Specifically the FS series. I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with them.

My needs aren't too demanding. I'm looking for a notebook that will probably be sitting on a desk most of the time, but at the same time fairly lightweight and portable for when the occasion arises. I mostly need it for internet, web design and photoshop work, and maybe some light gaming, but nothing truely intensive.

I've seen reviews for many other brands so I have a good idea what those are like. But for the sake of this post, I'd like to know more about the Sony FS.

Thanks

The FS series is pretty nice. Not too big, not too small and a wonder build. If you compare this to an HP, Compaq, or a Dell, you can see how much of a better build it is. The screens are very good, and the build isn't flimsy as the rest. I think it's a very good all-round machine. It should handle all your tasks with no problems. I find the HP's a little faster on processing, but a little extra can help on that. Especially if you're working with Photoshop.

Sony ranks close to the bottom in terms of service and support. If you don't have any problems with your laptop, you won't notice, but I've heard some horror stories about what happens when a Sony does break. Additionally, they are not service-friendly -- for example, most laptops have a slide-out hard drive tray, but on all the Sonys I've seen you have to remove the keyboard/palmrest assembly to get to the drive. (I'm not sure whether this is true for the FS series though.)

Sony notebooks are overpriced and very proprietary. They place form before function.
