Please, I need help with my laptop NOW!

It's a Sony VAIO PCNG 170.

For some reason, it started substituting numbers for letters off the keyboard. In other words, I go to type in usernames, or passwords, and instead of the letter "o", I get the number "6". This occurs all the time now.

I ran a complete Norton Virus scan and spysweeper scan, and all were negative. I did the complete Norton windows utitility scans and repaired all issues. Negative results.

Any suggestions to help me out?

Thanks

Sounds like the keyboard is going bad, since you have ruled out virus and spyware, the only other thing I would perhaps try is going into device manager and removing the keyboard and rebooting and letting windows reinstall the drivers for the keyboard, can't hurt but I would really tend to think yo may be having to take that laptop in for service... Thats the downside to laptops, not very many user servicable parts in them...

This might be too simple a solution but.......

Does your laptop have a number pad as extra key function on the alpahabetical keypad? For example, is there a number 6 in a square box on your 'o' key?

If so, you may have the Function lock permanently on...

I think that was it. Our new kittens have been walking on the keyboard and activated the NumLok/ScrlLok button.

Now only is I can figure out how to click on something and activate it without having to hold the Ctrl button down at the same time.
