Zen/Ipod couple Questions

I have a couple questions about the Zen and the I pod.

Where is a very good review site for both of these?

I hear that a hard drive has a 3-5 lifespan. Is this ture?

Does that same rule apply for the Ipod/Zen?

I hear that the Ipod has problems. Sometimes my freind and other people I know have trouble with theres, is this true?

Thanks alot guys.

I can just tell you that the ony problem that the ipod has is that their stock headphones arent very good somethimes they get a clipping noise and some funny noises but you can fix that with some Altec Lansing headphones similar to the ones that mac puts in their "Ipod"

I've never had any problems with my iPod. I think it's a great piece of hardware that's backed by a awful piece of software (itunes). The battery life isn't all that great. It's about the 3-5 hours like you heard. Although I usually don't let it leave the house so it doesn't matter to me. I use it more as an external hard drive more than anything.

i just bought a zen micro, and let me tell you its the best, battery life isnt big (12hours) thought its an external battery re-chargeable trought USB.

The Ipod, the biggest problem with the ipod today is the battery, The battery will be good for only 1-1.5years and since its an internal battery, youll have to return the product (the ipod) to replace the battery. But its a good peice of hardware

you can go on the Zen and Ipod sites, it will explain everything you need to know

You don't like iTunes? My friends and I love it, so it's at least worth a look for him.

Are you sure you need a HD based player? Flash based can last many more hours, and the Nano's seem to be selling like hotcakes these days. I have seen two and would just love to have one myself, for nothign else then to bring to my car. Do away with most every CD I have to carry.

My iPod worked well, although it had terrible battery life. It was 1st generation though, so by now I am sure they are packing a bit more power in there. The battery also has had a ton of wear and tear on it, so it isn't expected to hold as much of a charge as a new one. The whole external HD was awesome though.

My ipod gets about 13 hours playback on a charge, it's rated at 15 hours so it's dropped a bit, almost a year old. It has 1 problem locking up when playing mono encoded bookmarkable AAC files over 64mb in size, a simple fix is to re-encode them in stereo AAC instead, but there aren't too many mono bookmarkable AAC file out there I'm sure, the ones I had were radio shows I recorded with Audio Hijack Pro. Other than that this 4th gen unit has been ok.

I use Itunes right now and I love it. I think is blows Windows Media out of the water. I like the fact that it has all these importing and burning options. I have a flash based player but I wanted something to back up all my music in and as well lissen too. I liked the Zen because they were a little cheaper, the come with a case, and they have better HD selections then the Ipods do.

I can't stand Windows Media Player either. Too much stuff that is integrated. I just use Winamp Pro to play/rip/burn my music as well as transfer back and forth to the iPod.
