Need a new laptop
I have recently sold the computor i built, and got £950, i also have about £400 more in savings. . But instead of making a new comp, i have decided to get a new desktop replacement laptop. I have one other laptop which i move around (I'm strating to build a collection
). But i do not want to get another desktop, mainly because i end up having to sort out an infinite number of cables, and the space where the old tower occupied is now used up by a new cupboard. Aniway, if anyone could recomend a laptop which has either a 15.4" or 17" (prefered) screen, with a minimum of 512mb ram, and has built in bluetooth. And at leats 60gb hd. And no Alienware please. Any help greatly accepted.786ARS Last edited by 786ARS; 01-07-2006 at 02:02 PM. |

The Dell 9300 has most of what you are looking except the Bluetooth.

I am not a fan of laptops, but sometimes circumstances dictate and so I have just bought this Toshiba.
http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.c...0&DISC_MODEL=0 I bought it in PCWorld and after Panama Red was singing the praises of Toshiba lappy's I decided "oh well why not" This is a thread I started about this lappy. http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...rthday+present When I have sometime free I will write a review of it, oh yeah and I have already upped the RAM to 1gig

If you like the Toshibas, I'd recommend the Qosmio series, their screens are pretty nice too.

ok thanks for the info, i'm going for either the 9300 or the Qosmio G25, Which one would you prefer, taking into account that portability is the least of my concerns, im just getting a laptop as a space saver. Also which one is better gaming wise.

The 9300 is definitely better gaming-wise. Also, I trust Dell more than I do Toshiba at this point -- Dell's service is better and from my experience Toshibas aren't any more reliable (and in some cases less so).
You may also want to look at the Inspiron 9400/E1705 -- dual-core processor, longer battery life, and GeForce Go 7800.

I would reccomened Toshiba from personal experience.
Have a hunt on the toshiba website(toshioba.co.uk). You can buy most of thier laptops online. But they have a wide choice and for a desktop replacement i would reccomened the Qosmio. |

I have a customer that is having trouble with a recent Toshiba right now - he had it upgraded to a gig of ram and it's now overheating and shutting down. I'm not terribly impressed with Toshiba quality these days. They also come preloaded with a ton of shovelware, but this isn't a Toshiba exclusive. If you do buy a Toshiba, the FIRST thing you need to do is burn a recovery DVD, it doesn't come with media and you can't get media from Toshiba either.

Strange mine came with a recovery DVD. My Toshiba gets a bit warm but most people just buy one of those Laptop cooler things.
