Viewing used ports
I have a laptop with no serial/parallel ports that I need to interface with serial devices. I have successfully used a port replicator (COM4) for one device by using code I had already written. I have another device that came with software that only interfaces to COM1 or COM2. Unfortunately, these ports are both used on my computer (along with COM3: modem), but I don't know by what.
How can I find out what is using COM1 & 2? Device manager shows no ports, and neither the touchpad or keyboard is attached to COM1 or 2. I certainly can't fix the problem until I can define it. I already disabled my modem, just to be sure. Many thanks. |

If the ports dont appear in device manager wouldn't that mean they aren't installed?
