changing RAM in a laptop

Hello, I was wondering how hard it was to change RAM in a laptop. Mine is a Toshiba Satellite M40, currently with 512 RAM. And any advice on brand of RAM? Thanks alot.

Go here and find out what ram you can use for it. Crucial is a quality brand.

Its fairly easy to change the RAM on your laptop, usually theres a plastic cover with a screw(s) on it what has to be removed and its right under there. I'd refer to your manual to find out where exactaly it is, and see if you can just add another stick or you might have to replace the stick(s) in there.

I think that Toshiba uses Kingston RAM for most of their laptops - I would also check out Kingston's website as well.

You should be able to find a pictorial "how to" on the Toshiba site for adding memory. Some are accessed by removing a cover on the bottom of the laptop while others require removal of the keyboard. Either is quite easy if you take your time.
