Laptop Touch pad
I have a Dell, Latitude laptop, I bought it used for college and will it has not been taken very well care of. the touch pad is a little odd if you put to much weight on ether side of the touch pad, the curser take off to a corner. my question is is there a way to disable the touch pad? and / or track ball. I can use a plug in mouse. but this touch pad is driven me nuts, }
any help will be great.Pro.. |

To my knowledge installing the PnP mouse should automatically allow you to use the mouse instead of the touch pad, if it doesnt do it automatically try going into your device manager and setting it to.
As for disabling the touch pad all together...I have not worked with many laptops, but I love disabling peripherals as jokes on friends, and I dont know of any way to do it on a laptop.

Use a PS/2 or USB mouse. Cut out a piece of thin cardboard the exact size of the touchpad and tape it over it.

it is not realy the pad it self, it is that when I place my hands on ether side of the pad so I can type it will casue to pointer to move up to a corner of the screen and I can not get it to come back out of that corner. I then have to trun the lap top off so I can have contral over it again. it is like the pad is broken some how.

Have you tried disabling it from within the Windows control panel?

Most of the Dell's have a little icon in the System Tray by the clock that allows you to disable it. If it doesn't you can probably download the driver for it from Dell that will let you do this.
