Screen problem

I have an ECS laptop and the screen keeps going out on it. You can actually see the desktop but it is barely visible. I have hooked it up to a regular monitor and it runs fine. Sometimes the scrensn stays visible for up to 5 min. but mostly only a few seconds. It even does it in DOS mode. Anything in particular that I could check out? Thanks.

Hopefully it is in warranty. It sounds like the screen will need to be replaced. Usually it is too expensive to replace unless it is under warranty.

It's the backlight or the inverter - or a wiring issue. The whole screen probably doesn't need to be replaced, but it does have to be opened up and repaired.

It is out of warranty. Would a frayed wire cause this? I will try to open up the screen and not break anything as I do it.

Took screen apart and it ran fine. Put back together an OK so far. Maybe a bad ground?

Back together and same problem today. Last noght I left it on with the screen pulled apart and it worked for over 2 hrs. Could it be a heat problem?

Took apart again and it seems one of the screws was causing a grounding problem. OK so far. Thanks!
