Notebook cd/rom drive
Hopefully this is in the right place, if not I apologize. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a plug in style notebook cd/rom drive. In the pre-kindergarten class where my wife works, they had some workstations donated but one of them does not have a cd/rom drive. It uses the slim line plug in style cd/rom that you would find in a laptop. Unfortunately, since this one particular machine doesn't have a cd/rom drive, they can't use it for the education programs they have. I have checked at sites like Newegg and Best Buy, and Staples, and I can't seem to find one. If anyone has any ideas on where I could get one, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! Scomac |

If it is a name brand PC like Compaq, a swapable cd-rom from their line of note books should work. I found this out with Compaq .

The workstation is a Compaq. I'll check there. Amazing how the most obvious thing is sometimes the thing we forget to think about. LOL

You might come out cheaper by buying an external CD drive. HP/Compaq and other manufacturers parts are pretty pricey. Gateway once tried to charge me $100 for a floppy drive on a desktop. I declined.

Yup, an external would be good for future usage too. So you can use it on multiple computers and if you eventually get rid of this computer, you can take it to the next one. Plus it may be more affordable.

I had suggested the external cd/rom drive myself actually. However they got scared away with the almost $100 price tag, so I told them I would check into a replacement part. I'm guessing at this point that a replacement drive for that computer will probably cost as much as the external by the time you figure shipping and handling and such.

Thanks for the link GLC. I missed that when I was at Newegg and was checking. I'm going to bring the workstations home and clean them up and see if that interface will work.
