Mobile laptop with built in cell advice
Hi. I need to find a laptop whereby I will be able to log in to my work network from the train. So, I guess I will need WiFi, maybe bluetooth, and a built in cell to dial in from anywhere. Sony Vaio is probably the best, but they are about $2500 and the monthly fee for the built in Cingular EDGE cell is about $80. Does anyone know of a cheaper laptop with built in cell and cheaper monthly cell cost ?
Thanks, John |

I know of a couple of guys that use their regular cell phone and I think they use Bluetooth to connect to the cell. The big thing is would you keep a stable connection to the work network with the cell phone jumping from transmiter to transmitter along the train route.

I happen to like the new IBM Thinkpads (Z60 and T60) but they are expensive too. Dell is supposedly coming out with built-in WWAN on their Latitude line. However, if you want to get a normal Dell Inspiron or other low-cost laptop, all of the cell providers have PCMCIA cards that you can slide into any laptop with a PC card slot. Often they are free after rebate.
FWIW, Verizon's service is only $60, or $45 if you're a business user.
