Looking for MB info

I had a customer bring a MPC laptop into the shop with a loose AC adapter plug on the MB. Normaly I would attempt to re solder the piece to the board but the customer had kept trying to use the computer till extensive damage has resulted. The MPC laptop is a model T1000 with a P4 cpu. The board is made by HannStar and is a model J MV-4 is the best I can determind. There are other numbers on the board but have returned nothing from routine searches. He bought this unit from ebay and who ever cleaned it wiped out the serial number etc on the case. This makes it difficult at best to run down parts. I have checked HannStars site but it is no help. Just gives the products they manufacture. I have also sent them an email with info as well as MPC. Has anyone here had any dealings with these boards or laptops?

If it's just the jack itself that's broken, there are AC jack repair kits for sale on eBay. You might want to check those out.

I have some kits but in this case the board is beyond repair. I would like to find a used one somewhere. If I can just get a pt number it would help. I have posted on BrokerBin and others all the numbers I found on the board with no results yet. We keep a huge inventory of used computer/printer parts but this is a odd ball.

I just noticed I have the model number wrong. Its a MPC TransPort x1000 notebook.

Thanks for the reply Staren...have checked that out. Being that the unit is out of warranty they want to charge by the minute ..of course lol.
Got in touch with there outlet store and it seems they farm out all laptop repairs to a third party OEM contractor (prob Service Eletronics .. humm I buy used boards from them...) who does not sell parts. Go figure. I guess at this point I am looking for a used board or a whole laptop for parts.

I need to find out if they can get me a Schematic for it.

I have a faulty circuit but need schematic to fix it.

Good luck coyboss. You cannot even get parts for the machine much less a Schematic. I have and can get a Schematic for Dells, Compaq\HP, and Gateway ect but not MPC. I do board level repairs all the time. They farm out all there stuff to third party companys who want to just rip you off. Here is the site.

Not being rude about this but you would be better off trashing what you have and go with another make. The owner of the machine that I was working on did that and I got him a nice Dell that he can get parts for. He is very pleased with it. I sold the display and keyboard from the MPC and helped him pay for the Dell. As for Hannstar they can kiss my behind. I really would like to have been able to help you better. So sorry.

But the Laptop is not even 2 years old!!!

Its assinine to have to replace a $600 plus laptop within 2 years.

I did find out that the MOBO is an ATI model, and am in process of contacting them
to find out specs.

These computer makers are getting over like bandits!!!
A 1 year warranty on a Laptop,...... give me a break!!!
And HP won't tell you anything, needless to say I will ensure
that ALL MY CUSTOMERS STEER CLEAR OF HP IN THE FUTURE!!!

HP is getting tot he point GATEWAY was about 5 years ago when they lost market share.
They are so big they don't think they need to deal with the little guy!!!

I have always had bad luck with HP laptops. That's nothing new. The only HP products I will buy and/or recommend are printers, scanners, servers, and some of their business workstations. Their laptops and consumer level computers are junk.

Yep HP has really gone down hill. I service them all the time. I make good money just replacing that cheap power connector on the board for the 6100 series laptops all the time. I have a nx6110 board on my bench right now with a bad wireless switch\button. Cheap boards.

I found this thread after doing a search for Hannstar J MV-4.

My 23 month old Alienware AREA-51 5500, just suffered some major issues from extreme heat. The Nvidia board seems to be fried, and the onboard video only partially stable.

A few weeks ago, after having shut down the computer the previous night, when I turned it on the next day, vertical lines appeared on my screen. This had happens twice prior, but a simple reboot fixed it.

This time nothing seemed to work. I opened up the backplate and removed the hard drive, wireless card, ram, dvd, battery and video card. Booted, and saw the Bios screen. Then after added parts back one by one found the Nvidia card to be bad.

The computer then ran fine.

A week later after a reboot, same issue without the Nvidia card. hmmm

The the next day it worked again. Come to find out the computer will not reboot after it is HOT, and this computer gets really HOT. So as long as I leave it in standby mode it will always be on. I also learned that if I must reboot, 5 minutes in the freezer will allow it to reboot again.

OK, so how do I find another motherboard for this machine.? Alienware no longer makes the model and is reluctant to release any information on the subject. They would not even disclose the motherboard spec and manu.

I think this is a motherboard problem and secondarily the Nvidia card, however the video card it may work with a new board, without the HEAT DAMAGE.

Just wondering what other laptops use the same board (for EBAY searches) and if anyone has been successful finding a replacement board of this model?

My 2yr old LG R500 encases my H S JMV-4. A minor power receptacle issue has now disabled my system. Instead of going through the B.S. of doing the necessary open heart surgery myself (which I have done successfully numerous times), a "Pro" in the field would be more efficient and expedient than I. Well the guy drills a hole in the Mobo cause he stripped a screw that displayed some stubbornness in extraction. Then proceeds to use at best a grill iron or possibly a fireplace poker to do the delicate repair work that I had to pre-pay him $150 so that he could take my $800 laptop that was fully functional upon delivery. And reduce its functionality equal to a litter box. Would have saved the $150 had I done it myself risking only to have equal results... at worst. Anyway, first and last time I take any of my goods in and have to pay to have my stuff ruined.

This motherboard is used in lots of different brand named machines. Hannstar make it and sell it to retailers such as Gateway, Medion & Zoostorm who just stamp their name and logo on it, write a support CD and sell it to you.
This model, the 'J MV-4' is known for becoming faulty in various ways.
One of the most common issues is arcing at the motherboard around the positive pin of the DC adapter which quickly finds the middle ground pane and burns away at it. I have found this not to be caused by poorly soldered joints but by slow failing Mossfets. Even if you replace the power board after the DC jack has completely failed it is unlikely it will work again and if it does it won’t be for long and is a potential fire hazard.
Other issues of this board are a failing ATi GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) which again is beyond economic repair or worth.
Sorry for the bad news but anyone with one of these needs to think about moving on to a better product.
