Angry Laptop Does Not Start Up

I am putting this help request out in the hopes that someone has come across this problem and managed to resolved it.

I have a Sony PCG-GRS700 which originally came with 256 MB or RAM. To speed uo the booting process I added an additional 512 MB of RAM. The unit worked for about 3 months. One day, while looking at the "My Computer" properties, I noticed that 512 MB of RAM had disappeared. I checked the RAM using various utilities and physically swopping the slots. After all the tests, I cam to the conclusion that the RAM had 'died' on me.

I installed the 256 MB RAM into the laptop but it now does not even start up.

Does anybody know what it wrong and the otions available to me to resolve the problem short of sending it to a repair shop?

John:

The new RAM had been working for the last three months. In any case, the laptop does not start up even when the new RAM was taken out from the unit.

Regards.

Sorry I might not be understanding what's going on but did you try just the new 512mb ram stick by itself?

You have 2 modules - a 256 and a 512, right? Try them one at a time, in each slot. Right now you don't know if you have a bad slot or a bad module.
