Can I upgrade the CPU in a Laptop
My girlfriend has a Dell Inspiron 1100. I was wondering if its possible to upgrade the CPU? I guess I would have to find out what socket type it is. I'm trying to avoid Dell to save some money. It has a Celeron 2.29 w/128k L2. I'd like to move to something with a larger L2; preferably 1mb.

You could probably do it, but you will run into heat issues and possibly BIOS issues. If you can find a Socket 478 Northwood 533 MHz FSB processor, that's the kind that's most likely to work.

Just to add a little info on the computer to maybe help figure out the right CPU.
it runs DDR 266 memory and intel 845gl chipset. If that helps. EDIT: Ok. I'm actually a little confused on the chipset. I had just recently downloaded an updated chipset driver from Dell. It read somewhere on it that said 845GL. I looked into the Advanced system info of my girlfriend's laptop and I found something that reads, "Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Processor to I/O controller-2560." Is this the chipset driver? Can I put in any socket 478 CPU that is supported by any one of the G/GL/GE/PE/GV versions? How can I find out exactly what chipset it has. Can the same chipset be run by different versions of the 845 chipset drivers? Does anything I'm writing make sense
