Slim line DVD-RW with Thinkpad
Hi all,
Right now, I'm looking at laptops for college next year, and I'm leaning towards a Thinkpad T60. I was wondering if it would be possible to buy one without the DVD-burner (just the standard reader) and then upgrade using a Slim line DVD-RW like you can get from newegg, etc. It seems like this would be a more cost effective solution, if it works. Thanks |

I'm not completely sure with the T60, but I know with the T43 they use a drive that is even slimmer than regular laptop drives. Plus, there are special retention rails that you need to mount on the drive. If you want a DVD-RW, I'd get it with the laptop.

I did just what you are suggesting with a t30. I got the dvd burner on ebay for 100 bucks. It works fine.

The T2x and T30 have a thicker drive bay (Ultrabay 2000) than the T4x/T60 (Ultrabay Slim). So what works on a T30 will probably not work on a T60.
