How much is this Sony laptop worth?

I was planning to sell this on Ebay but than my friend says that he might be interested in buying it from me.

It's a Sony Vaio PCG-R505EL Pentium 3 with 12" screen.

The laptop does not work. The hard drive needs to be replaced.

I have no idea how much I should sell this. What is a fair selling price should I tell my friend?

I doubt you could get $500, because you can buy a new entry level Dell for that with a Celeron-M, which is faster than any Pentium-3.

Yeah im sure by replacing the harddrive and maybe reinstalling windows on it, you could get some more money out of it. Services always get you more money

I ended up getting $550 for my Sony Vaio which is in excellent like new condition with P4 2.8Ghz, 512 MegRam, dvd/cdrw. I wanted 700 and had it listed on Ebay for 2 weeks, then went down to $650 and got 1 bid, but he copped out on me. so it ended up selling right here on PCMECH marketplace and I went down to $550, because thats still better for me right now, to have that money than a laptop that we do not use just sitting around getting older by the day. I just said all that just to give you an idea of what laptops are going for, check out ebay to get a good idea of what they are pricing out at. The problem with a laptop on ebay is that there were over 20,000 laptops listed there...
