A new laptop now or wait?

I need to have a laptop before september, one that will last a few years, but I am wondering will there be any revamp in hardwares anytime soon, like do I need 64bit hardwares, or dual processors.

If you can wait a while then it can never be harmful to see what happens with the market, but at the same time you can always find something to wait for with technology. So i always say buy it whenever you want it.

The sole purpose of a computer is to run software. What software do you need to run? Don't worry about getting cutting edge hardware....save the bucks and just get what you need to do the job.

Great advice, I second that.

What do you plan to do with the laptop? What is your budget?

My parents would allow me to spent up to 1500usd, I want to keep it low though. The laptop would be used for mainly school works and movies, I would game lightly but thats not an important factor.

A few questions about the laptop
-Whats the difference between a primary and secondary battary?
-What kind of parts can I replace on my own if I buy some of them on newegg?
-Would a screen protector and keyboard protector be good or unnecessary?

Thanks for the responses.

In order:

-- A secondary battery usually goes in a modular bay and adds additional power, but doesn't last as long as the primary battery when used on its own.
-- You can add memory, upgrade the hard drive, and on some laptops switch out the optical drive (either with a Newegg one or by buying one direct from the manufacturer). The Mini-PCI or Mini-PCI-E card is also accessable.
-- A keyboard protector would be useful, but I don't think they make one. The best idea, however, would be to buy an external keyboard and use that while at your desk.

A Dell Inspiron E1505 would probably serve you well. Make sure to use a coupon from http://www.xpbargains.com/dell_coupons/ to get the price down (the coupons are off of the crossed-out, non-discounted price). The options I think would be most important for you would be a bigger hard drive, ATI X1400 graphics, and a longer warranty.
