Mobile Sempron - Any Good?
Hope this is the correct place, seems it more than general hardware section.
I've only ever dealt with Intel mobile products; the new Core Duo is an impressive piece of silicon. However I keep seeing more about AMDs Turion and mobile Sempron CPUs; I know the desktop chips are very good but I've not seen any decent reviews of the Sempron mobile range. Has anyone got some firsthand experince with them they would like to share? Thanks in advance. |

Mobile Semprons are based on the Turion lineup. I'm not sure what the differences are between the Turion and the Mobile Sempron, but they probably involve less cache and/or loss of power-saving circuitry. Pentium-Ms and the Core Duo/Solo lineup are more power-efficient than the Turion lineup, so if battery life is a concern, go Intel (and not the Celeron-M, because those don't have SpeedStep). But if all you need is a basic entry-level laptop and you're buying from a reputable manufacturer, the Mobile Sempron should do fine.
