Hp Laptop Shutting Down...

I have an HP Pavillion zd7000 laptop and when I'm running a movie or playing a game, it shuts itself down (completely off) after about 35-40 minutes. Any ideas? If I missed some critical info, please ask. Thanks.

Sounds like it could be overheating.

hmmm, good call. How do I tell if it is? It does feel hot out the side where the fan blows...but I'm not sure if it's too hot. Is there a way of knowing?

Send a message via AIM to thefultonhow
Download Notebook Hardware Control and see what the temp readouts are.

Ok, excellent....I will do that right now. So what kind of temps should I expect to see? just so I know what I'm looking at. Is there a trigger point on these things? meaning is there a certain temp where they will shut down? Thanks very much

Sweet, I ran the program and monitored the temps. It got up to 68 degrees! so i checked out the fans and cooling passages....turns out when I got it apart you could see just how blocked it was! So I cleaned them all out and tried again, now my temps are more like 45 degrees and it doesn't shut off anymore!

Thank you so much.
