HP laptop and battery issue

I hope someone can help me on this. I have a HP ze4610laptop. It will not run off of battery ppower. Runs off ACpower just fine. If i boot using the battery it will shut down at the OS selection screen everytime. The battery is fine and charges using a friends HP laptop. My laptop shows its charging but doesnt charge up. If i boot with AC power and remove AC power then laptop will shut off within seconds. I heard it might be the onboard charging system gone bad. I have replaced the DC power jack twice. Does anyone know where on the motherboard the onboard charging is?

If you have replaced the jack twice, you may be looking at a motherboard replacement.

yeah i thinking that too which probably wont be worth it. i know i read that replacing the MB requires to reenter the serial number, is that necessary?

Yes, Windows will probably require reactivation.

That is probably the inverter for the LCD display, not what you need.
