Looking for good/cheap travel laptop

Have been reading reviews on mobile laptops. Want one to take in car/planes (good battery life) on trips. Compact enough for easy transport, but enough power to play DVD and do photo editing. Like to access internet on the road, but not sure how to do this. Any suggestions?

The first thing I looked at when buying my laptop was the power supply.
My machine was going to have to work in the UK (240volts) and the USA (110volts).
Not sure if this applies to you but worth remembering if you intend to travel far with it.

Cheap will not be very compact. The lightweight 12 inch screen models command a somewhat premium price. You can get a mainstream 15 incher dirt cheap - look at the Dell E1505.

You should also look at the Inspiron E1405 -- slightly smaller with slightly better battery life, but around the same price as the E1505.
