i recently installed a realport2 network card and my cd ,floppy, usb ports and soundcard stopped functioning on my laptop. it is an old laptop.
i uninstalled the network card and loaded default bios settings but this made no difference.
other than this the laptop is working.

Installing and uninstalling devices do not change the BIOS settings it is a Windows driver or IRQ conflict issue. The setting you do want to see in your BIOS is 'Plug and Play OS' and you want that to be a yes if that laptop has that. Is that a pcmcia network card??
