Transferring Ipod To New PC

I am totally stumped on this. I recently built a new PC, I want to transfer my Ipod and it's music to the new PC. I followed the instructions on Apple's website, while that did allow the music on my Ipod to stay on the Ipod, it does not transfer the files to the library in Itunes, this makes it pretty worthless. Is there any tricks to getting the music stored on my Ipod into the new library in itunes?

do you still have the music on the old computer? if you do, the easiest way would be to copy it from that using your method of choice (network, external media, etc)

if you only have the music on your ipod now, check out a program called anapod explorer (http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/)

here's another good article (http://playlistmag.com/help/2005/01/2waystreet/)

and if you want to keep looking - http://www.google.com/search?q=recov...en-US:official

I don't use iTunes at all. I've used Winamp to transfer music back and forth since the plugin for it came out. Now, Winamp has the Ipod transfer plugin built in. Unfortunately, it does not rename the filenames back to their full titles, but there is software out there that can do that. I use Tag & Rename.

i think there is a couple of programs knocking around on ipod websites (just do a google) that let you rip the music from the ipod back into itunes.
just try googling for ipod sites then check out the download sections.
i know a friend has done this

www.ilounge.com

look on the left side for the windows software link and choose 1 of the free apps to transfer ipod-itunes... look for one that transfers metadata and playlists, it'll save you a little time.

Do not attach and sync your iPod to an empty iTunes library.
The instructions you followed, were they the ones telling you how to treat the iPod as a USB drive?
Do you still have the library on the old hard drive?

edit : Okay here's how
Quote:
For Windows:
1) connect iPod and hold Shift + Ctrl - this stops the auto sync
2) If your iPod doesn't appear in 'My Computer' then enable disk use for the iPod
3) Go to 'My Computer' and Double-click your iPod to open it
4) From the menu bar go to Tools > Folder Options…
5) Select the 'View' tab
6) scroll down and enable 'Show Hidden Files and Folders'
7) hit 'Apply' or 'OK'
8) Double-click on 'iPod_Control', then 'Music'
9) Copy the contents (Folders named F01, F02, etc.) to your HDD
10) open iTunes preferences and under the advanced pane, make sure that 'Keep iTunes Music folder organized' and, 'Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library' are checked. The first option will fix up the filenames so that they appear normal, the second makes sure that the songs are somewhere safe that iTunes knows about.
11) Drag the Folders into the iTunes window to import your music

If you still have the old hard drive with the library on it you can simply slave it to the new build and then drag and drop the old My Music folder into the new one.
Remember that you should de-authorize the old computer.
