Digital cameras?

I have been looking into purchasing a digital camera and came up with these two options, if you have another suggestion please tell me.

Canon sd450
Canon

or

Sony DSC-W50
Sony

The only real difference from what I could understand is the type of storage media these use, and sony having its own memory sticks which are more expensive? Anyways, any thoughts on which one to go with? or maybe something else?

Thanks

These are two of the best you can buy. I have the A620 and love it!

I would go with the Cannon just because it's a bit more standard format. It isn't like you can't find MS Duo cards since the PSP has been out, but SD works with a lot more hardware. Finding card readers that will take MS Duo can be a pain. If you don't need a small point and shoot, I'd go with one of the options PR listed.

I recently just got the Canon sd600 and I have to say its a great camera. Not only is it really small (you could fit it easily in a shirt pocket) but it also takes amazing photos. I got a deal on Newegg not too long ago which threw in a free 1 GB SD card as well, making the deal even better. Personally I would go with Canon because its a solid brand and uses cheaper memory storage in SD (as apposed to Sony's memory stick)

I've had the canon sd450 for about two weeks now and I love it, small enough to put in your pocket and still feels solid. We'll see how it holds together but so far so good.

I have the A610 (5MP version of the A620) and have been very satisfied with its picture quality for a point and shoot camera.

Whoops should have looked at the dates a bit more carefully. Hope you're still enjoying the SD450.

Vote for the SD450

Received a SD450 as a gift recently with a 512MB card. Came at a good time as we were days from a vacation to Kauai

Didn't have much time to delve into the official users manual, so did a quick browse over the quick & dirty start-up guide, and the rest was OTJ training ...

And I must say this has been the best digital camera I have ever used. The best feature imo was the extremely fast off to on & ready to shoot speed, probably just a hair over a second or two (probably less than two) and you can start taking quick pics from full off to power up. Very small, slips into any pocket I had. Took this camera on a (very) wet boat ride up & down the Na Pali coast, got sea water sprayed all over it trying to snap off shots, camera never failed me. Also managed to smear quite a bit of sunscreen on this poor camera on frequent beach excursions; it begged for more so that it too could be protected from the UV rays ...

Only had to charge the battery twice with moderate usage nearly every day. Bummer is that you have to take the battery out to charge it, minor nuisance.

Flawless performer for nearly two weeks, and managed to come just one pic shy of filling up the 512MB SD card! 1 & 2GB cards are cheap enough, I'm looking to upgrade to ensure I never run out of room.
