Strange screen problem
For a while now I have been having strange issues with my laptops screen. I have a Toshiba Satelite A60-108 andc I keep getting strange lines over my screen. I keep getting stranges lines through things like pictures, icons and videos. It also appears during start up(White lines all over the screen). These lines also appear in screenshots so would I be right in hinking it is the graphics or the screen.

If it is still under warranty, I would have it serviced. I see that when graphics chips start to go bad in laptops.

The warrnety expired last september. They repaired it last sempember(day after warrenty expired) and I dont think Toshiba will do it again. But it is worth a try. I will ring up now and see how much it will cost.

It's most likely the graphics.

So how much do you think it will cost to repair. I have decided that if it costs too much to repair, then I will buy a new one.

It would probably require a new motherboard, which is lots of money. I'd just go for a new one. Get an IBM or a Dell with a nice long warranty this time.

I knew it would come to this. I have been looking at the Dell Inspiron 9400. I am going to ask Toshiba how much it would cost to get repaired anyway.

I agree, it sounds like a motherboard. Every time one of our Gateway laptops has had this kind of issue, the motherboard was replaced.
If you are up to it, you may want to see if you can get a motherboard on eBay or elsewhere and install it yourself. It might save you money, but it could also be a crapshoot. |

It looks like I will be getting a new one. My local PC World has an Advent 7097 which has a 1.7Ghz Pentium M, 512 mb ram, 40gb Hdd, 41.1 screen, Intel GMA 900. It would suit my needs and I will be ordering as soon as they come back into stock. Does anyone know who Advent actually are. From what I have seen they are sold in shops owned by DGS Retail.
