I am buying a new laptop an was lookin at the Xplorer X64-9900 from cyberpowerpc.com. This is the configuration
CPU: Mobile AMD Turion 64 MT-40 CPU HDD: 120GB 5400RPM ULTRA ATA 100 HARD DRIVE MEMORY: 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 400MHz VIDEO: Built-in Mobility™ Radeon® X1600 256MB PCI-Express X16 SOUND: CREATIVE AUDIGY 2 ZS NB PCMCIA CARD or XPLORER X5 6800 Intel® Core™ Duo T2600 Dual-Core Processor 2GB (2x1GB) PC5300 DDR2-667 Mobility™ Radeon® X1600 256MB REATIVE AUDIGY 2 ZS 100GB 5400RPM SATA150 it (Xplorer X64-9900 laptop) comes up to 1650.00. Is it a good buy? Do I need that audigy sound card? is it really that much better over onboard ac-97 sound? Also can i hook the audigy sound card to a redular stereo? Same for the XPLORER X5 6800, which is better? Last edited by Prometheus; 06-23-2006 at 12:35 AM. |

I would go with the Xplorder X5 6800. Intel wins hands down in the laptop market. You dont really need a dedicated sound cars unless you do things that require high sound quality(such as recording). AMD rule in the desktops, but Intel literally own the Laptop market.

I think if you want to game, you should just build a decent desktop. If you get a laptop for the mobility, just get a sub-$1000 laptop and use it for what it was intended.

This will suit all your gaming and mobility needs:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834115246 It's only a little over $1000, and it is a very good computer. I have had my Acer Laptop for over a year and a half, and I Have had no problems with it. That notebook there will play pretty much any game you throw at it. If not on the highest settings, it will certainly make the games look good. You won't find a better laptop to play games on at that price. You'll probably also get about 4 hours of battery life on it like I do on mine. It only has a gig of RAM but if you find that is not enough, you can add more for very little money these days. |

I saw this one up there also, Acer TravelMate 8200 TM8204WLMi. Is the screen really not that good for gaming? A couple of reviews said so, it has everything i need, a good graphics card, tons of space, 2 gigs of ram for when i get vista, t2500 duo cpu. The only compliants i read of is the screen not being good for gaming and the 120gb drive being partioned into 3 drives.
