IBM Thinkpad T30 Boot Problems

Ok I go to turn on my laptop the other day and it just hangs up at the splash IBM screen. In the lower left corner it give the options or pressing F1 to enter bios setup or F12 to choose where to boot from. It will not go past this point without pressing one of those keys. So after 5 minutes I press F1 to see what is going on. It takes several minutes to go into the bios. Just before it enters bios it displays something like reset cmos due to errors. Once in the bios though everything looks fine. Oh yeah I got no hardware beep on start up either. No beeps at all. So I searched online on how to reset the cmos on a thinkpad but no luck. I even checked the manufaturers website. I have taken the hard drive out and tried to check it out with my desktop but it is not accessible. I used one of those external hard drive cases. Any idea of what I should check next. Battery is good or I can use the wall out let.

How old is this Thinkpad?
When you went into the BIOS was it displaying the correct time and date?

The thinkpad is about 3 years old. It has worked well and never given me problems before. No new software has been installed or anything. I did not noticed the date when I got into the bios. Right now the comp is in a million pieces. I took it apart to try to find something not connected right. I also removed the hard drive and connected it to my desk top with a ext bay drive kit. The hard drive is not recognized. It appears to be dead. I have 2 other portable hard drives that I can use in place of this one. I just need to find a complete restore cd. Thanks guys.....

3 years is well into the death phase of Lithium ion batteries. Personally, I'd buy/borrow a new one. Even it that isn't causing today's problem, it will be tomorrow's.
