1.83 or 2.0 ghz Core Duo?
I've definitely decided to go with an IBM T60 for college now that I found out I can get pretty much like a $200 discount on Lenovo's through the school. What was going to cost about $1630 is now only $1430 configured identically. Since I'm saving this extra money, do you guys think it would be worth it to go with the 2.0 ghz processor for an extra $100? It's still $100 cheaper than the 1.83 if I got it straight from lenovo, but i'm not sure whether it would be worth it or not.
I don't plan to play any games on it except starcraft, but you only need a Pentium 90 for that, so that really isn't an issue. I plan for this to be a tool rather than a toy 99% of the time which is a lot of why I went with lenovo. I do some photoshop and audio editing, but the audio is more of hobby I do really infrequently, so it isn't a major issue. Basically, I just want this to be something that will still be running like a champ 5-6 years down the road. I also don't really plan to install vista if I can get away with it. Thanks for the help. |

I honestly don't think .17GHz is going to make much performance difference...go with what's cheaper...

Two additional questions I guess.
1. Can the hard drive and ram be swapped out a few years from now when I feel they aren't enough on T60's? 2. Does anyone know where I can find benchmarks comparing all of the Core Duo lines for laptops? Every benchmark I seem to look at only has like one core duo and then they compare it to the older Pentium M's and Turion 64's. |

Yes, you can upgrade the hard drive and ram. I just ordered a T60 for a customer - we went with the 1.83, 60 gig drive, and 1 gig ram.

Just got my T60 today for grad school in the fall. It's got a 1.83ghz CoreDuo/1gig ram/80 gig hdd/DVD/CDRW, and 15" screen. So far I'm very happy with the machine, it's very speedy and the 15" flex view screen is just beautiful. I highly recommend it.
