HP Pavilion ZD7000 Laptop power issue

I got this HP Pavilion ZD7000 Laptop from a friend today and he knows nothing about it. All I got was the Laptop and the power cable and converter. When you plug it into the wall and plug it into the lap top and press the power button it doesnt come on. And it doesnt come on when its not on the wall charger either. The plug where you put power into the laptop it self seems very loose. My friend knows nothing about it as it was given to him. Laptap looks to be in OK condition.. no cracked screen.. has a 60GB HDD and 512MB of Ram.. I dont know how the processor is.. all I know is that its a P4 I just want to know why this might not be turning on. I'll be adding photos. There is a port in the back that has a lock on it.. I wonder what if its a security feature that prevents it from booting without it. I just want this laptop to work..

Pics..

My brother was trying to get an HP laptop fixed not long ago, and while looking for answers to his problem, I ran across alot of pages that said Pavillions seem to have a big problem with faulty power jack connections. Most of the pages said that sometimes the jack just needs resoldered but other times it's totally broken. You can search Google for "hp pavillion bad power jack" if you want to see some of those pages for yourself. Have you tried wiggling the power plug a little where it plugs into the jack to see if it makes connection then? If it does, then you might be lucky and just need it resoldered.

Oh yeah, that little "lock" thing you mentioned.....that's just some kind of locking pin that you have to disengage if you try to take the laptop apart. That's all it was on the one my brother had anyway.

That slot is for a Kensington lock.

Hey glc (or anybody that knows).....does that Kensington lock slot have some kind of clasp in it that holds the laptop together even if it doesn't have that little lock inserted into it? Why I ask is because the one my brother has seemed to be stuck right where that lock slot was when we were taking it apart awhile back even though all the other screws were out and it should've just pulled apart. Only way I got it to open was by sticking a mini-screwdriver in the hole and pressing around the different sides of it, then *click* it opened right up. Any insight?
