Laptop screen trouble
I bought a used laptop, a Dell Inspiron 2650. I upgraded the internal RAM, while doing so, I removed the graphics card. Which I now regret! After reinstalling everything, the screen is MUCH smaller and if Windows xp does load, red lines will appear everywhere! I'm pretty sure that the problem lies in the graphics card because I plugged in my CRT and got the same picture. I've never worked with something like this, and I could use some help. If someone has any ideas on what I can do to fix the problem, it would really be appreciated. Thanks

Did you take good antistatic precautions when you removed and reinstalled the graphics card?
Did you remove the battery before removing the graphics card?

I bought the laptop from a good friend and inspected it before I paid him the money. When taking it apart, no power source was even close to the laptop. I was very careful on uninstalling and reinstalling everything that had to be removed. Now I'm thinking of just buying another graphics card on eBay. But still, if anyone has the slightest clue on what might be happening to it, please let me know. Thanks

Have you tried removing the card, giving it a clean across the contacts, blowing out the slot in the mobo and reseating it?
Have a good look in the slot on the mobo and make sure nothing has come loose and lodged in there. |

Out of curiosity is the graphics card showing up correctly in device manager, or is the display too bad to be able to see it?

HEY! i was able to make my way there and i updated the driver for it. Now its working just fine! thats funny, why would it have anything to do with the driver when the last one was working just fine? Hmmm... theres something to think about. Anyway, thank you very, very much for helping me overcome something i've never even seen before. yet, it was all so simple. Thanks again.

Good one.. glad you managed to sort it
![]() Just one question, when you upgraded the ram and took the graphics card out did you swap the graphics card for another one or put the original back in? Last edited by rjfvillarosa; 07-31-2006 at 04:06 PM. |
