Trouble with Toshiba M35X-S163

Hello:

I have a Toshiba M35X-S163. It is shutting down whenever I plugged the adapter to it. However, when I put in the battery, it stays on for the life of the battery. I think my problem might be the adapter. I am not sure though. Sometimes it will stay on for hours with the adapter and sometimes just a few minutes.

Another thing that makes me think it might be the adapter is that the green light will go off even after it is shut down. For instance, I shut it down and the green light is on. However, overnight it will cut off. I used to be able to keep it plugged all night.

Has anyone ever heard of this?

I think I would get in contact with Toshiba technical support...they must have an email address on their site!?

OK. I called Toshiba. They say it may be a bios battery problem. However, if it is a bios battery problem, why does the laptop work fine on the battery but not on the adapter. Also, can't I change the battery"

Yes you can change the battery, but it will probably involve taking the laptop apart.
It sounds more like a faulty power socket connection, is the plug loose in the socket at all? has the laptop taken any kind of jolt that could have unseated the power distribution board inside the laptop?
Have a look at this site http://www.irisvista.com/tech/ it has a lot of usefull information about repairing Toshiba laptops.

Toshiba M35x-S163 Problem

Thank you for your reply. No. The power socket is not loose. But appoximately two weeks ago, the laptop got some water in it. I did not mention this because it seemed to be working find up until 4 or five days ago. Could that be the problem?

I looked at the site and it gives lots of information about disassembling a laptop, but how do I reseat a power distribution board? Is that major?

Talking rjfvillarosa-Thanks

rjfvillarosa:

Thank you. I went back and relooked at the site you pointed me to. It does have lots more information. I think my problem might be the jack. It seems that my model of Toshiba has a design flaw in that area. However, I would have to disassemble the laptop and resolder it. I think I will get one of my PC tech friends to do it. I would rather pay them a fair price then be ripped off by a so call "Authorized Dealer".
