CPU on Pavilion upgradeable?

long time no post!

I made the mistake of buying a laptop with a P4 in it. I quickly tired of the short battery life and heat, (as if TX wasn't hot enough!) So I was thinking, can I upgrade it to another Socket 775 chip that uses less power and is cooler? How do the Core Duos, Solos and Pentium Ms fair in the 2 categories? Would that have any affect on the power requirements? Obviously, I don't wanna risk burning it out...I understand it may require a BIOS flash as well. Suggestions please...

e.n.

edit: Checked the specs on the monster and realized it's a Socket 775, not 478.

I highly doubt it. Which exact Pavilion and which exact processor is it?

It's the zd8215US HP Pavilion and the processor is a 2.8 P4 520 with HT. I was looking on Newegg and the socket 775 has a limited selection. It seems the best option would be the p4 631 Cedar Mill since the majority of the reviews indicate it runs cooler than the Prescott. But I don't know if the results would be worth the money.

What happened to all of your posts glc?

I doubt you can even do that. Your best bet is get a cooling pad.

You are probably going to have to post on the HP forums to see if a processor change will work and how difficult it would be.

Well...I posted on the HP forums and a member directed me to www.powerleap.com . According to the configurator, the only compatible upgrade is a P4 560. Needless to say, it would only make the heat problem worse! Thanks for the tip glc.
