Any Toshiba Laptop experts out there?
Just had repaired A Toshiba M30 Laptop. The motherboard and CPU were replaced. After returning home with it was discovered the CPU speed is only 600Mhz instead of 1.7Ghz like it is supposed to be. Seems to be not be any way to get it to run at its nominal speed. TIA

Did you take it to Toshiba for repair?
Do you know what motherboard and processor were fitted to it to repair it? Have a look at this site and see if it can give you any idea as to what should have been fitted. http://www.irisvista.com/tech/

It sounds like Speedstep may not be enabled in the BIOS. I would check that first and then contact the people that worked on it to resolve it.

I had the same problem with a Toshiba lappy I sent in for repair. It's a problem the repair shop has to fix. It's nothing you can do, I tried. It's a known problem with certain Toshiba laptops when the mobo and/or cpu is replaced.

Can you recall what is the problem with these laptops that they will not run at full cpu speed? I am curious because it seems like an odd problem and it makes me think Toshiba are doing something funny with replacement parts.

This may help, not only with the why but also how to fix it.

Good news! After downloading and running a program we were able to reset the CPU table and the laptop is back to normal. Great because I don't have to trek all the way to the repair shop...who by the way should have reset the cpu table in the first place.
