I would like a laptop but still like desktop

can a laptop really run and be a gamer like the desktop can

I know most people say no laptop is better than a desktop

You can get laptops that will game like a high end desktop no problem. There are laptops with 17" and 19" displays with dual core CPUs, SLI video cards, 2GB of ram, the works. The thing is though that these laptops are not very portable. They are big, heavy and have very low battery life. If portability is important to you, especially battery life, you would be better off with a high end desktop for games and a cheaper laptop. But if you plan on having the laptop plugged in, on your desktop for most of its lifetime, look into gaming laptops.

My suggestion then is to wait a few more months before looking. The specs and/or prices will change a lot by then and we can give you a better recommendation. The Dell XPS2 is a strong gamer.

The high end Acers are a good deal too - they come with Core Duos, 2gb ram, and ATI graphics adapters. However, by the time you are ready, the Core 2 Duo laptops should be available.

Or at least it was a year ago. The XPS M1710 is the latest state-of-the-art.
