Older HP problem
I have an HP Pavilion xf328, that has had problems from early on just shutting down. Initially, no problems, but within six months, it would occasionally just drop out - dead - complete shut down. With time, it just kept getting worse, and it has always felt like it runs hot.
I didn't get it in within the warranty period, so have lived with it, but now I can't load Service Pack 2 because it doesn't get through the install without dying. I even tried the process with the unit in the refrigerator to keep cooler, but to no avail. I've got a laptop cooler (extra fan system) that seems to help, but still.... Any ideas? Any diagnostics that can be run to check for hardware problems? Any utilities that will monitor temp so I can get a handle on it if it is temp related? I don't use a laptop enough to warrant buying a new one, although I'm tempted. Thanks for any help. TA |

You should be able to monitor temperatures with Speedfan.

Thanks - I'll check it out.
In browsing around the net looking for information on this, I've run into a couple other xf328 owners who have had the same overheating problem. Now to figure out if it's the fan system, heatsink or processor. TA |
