it possible. You can buy the parts on e-bay. I wouldnt say that its cheaper. It won't be a top of the line iPod, and sometime the sum of the parts are more expensive in teh long run. Plus there is no warrenty.

yeah...it sounds like its far more work and hassle than its worth.
Personally I would pay for a new one...they dont cost nearly as much as they did! There are also plenty of other good quality MP3 players that are a fraction of the price of an iPod!

That hardly means you can build it yourself. Where are you going to buy those specific parts and how much are YOU (not Apple) going to have to pay for them?

Apple does get high margins off the iPod. There was an article out there not too long ago that detailed the costs of parts and labor to Apple. I remember it being quite a bit less than the actual cost.

I've replace a battery in my Ipod (3rd Generatio) and when I had it open I considered putting a larger HD in it for it look just like a notebook hd in it. So in essence you wouldn't be building one but repairing a Ipod with a bunch of parts. It's an interesting idea and could save you $$$ money if you bought the components cheap enough.

I wouldn't build one if you were insterested in doing so only for the pourpose of owning one. Personaly I wouldn't even look at an Ipod then I'de go out and buy a Creative Mvision instead. If an Mvision were a girl I would say "Hey there lady friend, why don't we go back to my place and upload my mp3's to your harddrive". If Ipod were a girl I would say "I'de like a #2 supersized hold the mayo and an order of fries, please."
Haha all joking aside, if you were interested in building it for fun I say do it up! But More likely then not it will probably cost more to build then to out right buy one.

"Half price and buy 1 get 1 free is more my lingo "
Haha, good one, but i would go for a good MP3 player with a memory slot.
